Airport → your hotel
Antalya Airport (AYT) sits about 13 km east of the centre. The Antray tram stops at both terminals and reaches Kalekapısı in the old town in ~45 min (~40 TL with an AntalyaKart). Havaş shuttle buses run to the city centre (~250 TL). A taxi to Kaleiçi is roughly ₺700–900, to Lara about ₺500 and to Konyaaltı about ₺900. Most package hotels along the Lara and Belek strips include a transfer — check your booking before paying for one. Verified Aug 2026.

Ways to spend less
Mediterranean Museum Pass — €95 for 7 days, covering Aspendos, Side, Perge and 50-odd other sites across Antalya, Mersin, Adana and Denizli. Paying at each gate for the big three alone comes to about €43, so the pass only wins if you are also doing Myra, Olympos or Phaselis.
Foreign-visitor entry at state sites is set in euros and reprinted in lira at the gate, so the lira price drifts with the exchange rate — check the board, not an old blog post.
Buy the aquarium and any boat trip online rather than at the door; gate prices run 10–20% higher.
An AntalyaKart makes the tram and buses about a third of the cash fare, and transfers within an hour are nearly free.

SIM & data
Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom sell tourist SIMs at the airport, but they need your passport and are expensive. An eSIM bought before you fly is cheaper and instant. Note Turkey blocks unregistered foreign handsets after about 120 days — irrelevant on a short trip.

Best time to visit
April to early June and mid-September to end October are ideal — warm sea, bearable ruins. July and August run to 40°C and the archaeological sites have no shade at all. November to March is mild, green and cheap, but the sea is cold and many resort hotels shut.

Getting around
One Antray tram line links the airport, the bus station, Kalekapısı in the old town and Konyaaltı — buy an AntalyaKart at any kiosk. The nostalgic tram along the seafront is a short tourist hop. For the ruins, either a rented car or a coach tour; the public dolmuş to Aspendos drops you 4 km short of the gate.

Visa for Indians
Indian passport holders can use the online e-Visa (~US$43) ONLY if they already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit. Everyone else needs a sticker visa from a Turkish consulate — about ₹17,000 with service charges and 4–12 working days. There is no visa on arrival. Apply well before booking non-refundable flights.

Piyaz (the local white bean salad, made with tahini here and nowhere else), şiş köfte, fresh grilled levrek at the harbour, and künefe with clotted cream after dinner. Vegetarians eat very well — the meze table is mostly vegetable, and lentil soup is on every menu.

The heat is the real constraint
Aspendos, Perge and Side are open stone with almost no shade. In June to September do them between 08:30 and 11:00 or after 16:00, carry two litres of water each, and keep the middle of the day for the aquarium, the sea or a long lunch.

Money & prices
The lira moves fast, so treat every price here as an anchor rather than a quote. Cards work almost everywhere, but keep cash for the pazar, dolmuş fares and beach sunbeds. Change money in town rather than at the airport, and refuse the 'pay in your own currency' option on card machines.

Museum note
The Antalya Archaeological Museum — normally the city's best single sight — was demolished for rebuilding in 2025 and is expected to reopen at the end of 2026. It is deliberately left out of this itinerary. Check before you go in case it has opened early.
