Cairo International Airport (CAI) is about 20 km from downtown. An Uber or Careem is the easiest and cheapest option at roughly EGP 150–300 (book in the app to avoid haggling). The official airport taxi is EGP 200–350; an airport bus runs to Tahrir Square but stops around 9pm. Allow 30–90 min for Cairo traffic. Best time to visit
October–April is the cool, comfortable season — ideal for sightseeing. Summer (Jun–Aug) is fiercely hot, so do the Pyramids and outdoor sites at dawn and use museums and malls midday. Evenings are pleasant year-round.

Getting around
Use the Uber or Careem apps to avoid taxi haggling; the metro is cheap and beats the chaotic traffic for some routes. Cairo traffic is intense — allow plenty of time. Agree fares before any non-app ride. The metro is very cheap (single ~8–20 EGP) but limited for sights, so most visitors use <strong>Uber/Careem</strong>, which avoids fare haggling; there is no tourist day pass.

Tipping (baksheesh)
Small tips (baksheesh) are a way of life — keep small notes for guards, drivers, washroom attendants and helpers. Tip 10% at restaurants. Carry cash; cards are patchy outside hotels.

Buy your ticket at the official gate, fix any camel/horse price in writing beforehand, and be firm with persistent vendors. Go early to beat the heat and crowds. The new Grand Egyptian Museum nearby is spectacular.

Koshary (Egypt's carb-loaded national dish), ful and ta'ameya (falafel), molokhia, grilled pigeon, and fresh sugarcane juice. Sweets like basbousa and om ali are a must.

See the Nile
A felucca sail at sunset or a dinner cruise with music is a lovely way to experience the river that made Egypt. Zamalek island and the Cairo Tower give the best skyline views.
