Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) is only about 6 km from Thamel. Use the official prepaid taxi counter in the arrivals hall — a fixed ~1,000 NPR to Thamel (100 NPR more after 21:00). October–November and March–April are ideal — clear skies, mild days and the best Himalayan views. The monsoon (Jun–Sep) is wet and hazy; winter is cold but clear. Mornings give the clearest mountain views.

Use the Pathao or InDrive apps for taxis (or agree the fare first); the old quarters are best on foot. Traffic and dust are heavy — a mask helps. Durbar Squares and Patan/Bhaktapur each take a half-day. There is no metro; cheap local buses and microbuses are crowded, so most visitors use taxis (agree the fare first) or the <strong>Pathao/inDrive</strong> apps.
