Krabi International Airport (KBV) is about 15 km from Krabi Town and 25 km from Ao Nang, where most visitors stay. The airport shuttle bus is the cheap option — 150 THB to Ao Nang (about 50 min), 90 THB to Krabi Town. A metered taxi or airport limousine to Ao Nang runs ฿600–800; Grab works but cannot always pick up kerbside at the terminal. If you are heading straight to Railay, take a taxi to Ao Nang pier and a longtail from there — there is no road. Verified Aug 2026.

Ways to spend less
Book boat tours at a shop in Ao Nang the day before, not online — the same longtail trip is routinely 30-40% cheaper, and you can see the boat you are getting.
National park fees are extra on almost every tour (400 THB Phi Phi, 400 THB Four Islands, 300 THB Hong). A quoted 'all-in' price that looks cheap usually is not — ask specifically.
Eat in Krabi Town rather than on Ao Nang's beach road; the same plate of southern curry is a third of the price.
Longtails to Railay are per-seat and leave when full at about 150 THB — a chartered boat for the same crossing is 1,500 THB. Wait the ten minutes.

Best time to visit
November to April is the dry season — calm seas, every boat running, and the only time Phi Phi and Hong are reliably reachable. May to October is monsoon: half the price, very green, but tours get cancelled at short notice and some beaches fly red flags.

Getting around
There is no metro and no real bus. Songthaews run Ao Nang to Krabi Town for about 60 THB, Grab works on the mainland, and everything else is a longtail boat. Railay has no road at all — it is boat-only from Ao Nang or Krabi Town, and the last boats go around 18:00.

Visa for Indians
Indian passport holders enter visa-free for 30 days, no fee. You must file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours of arrival, and carry a return ticket, hotel booking and proof of funds — immigration at Krabi does ask. Passport valid 6 months.

Food to try
Southern Thai food is hotter than Bangkok's: gaeng som (sour orange curry) with fish, khua kling, and roti from the Muslim stalls in Krabi Town. Vegetarians should learn 'jay' (เจ) — pure veg — because fish sauce and shrimp paste are in almost everything by default.

Tides run this trip
More than anywhere else on this site, Krabi's days are set by the tide. The Four Islands sandbar only appears at low tide; the Hong lagoon can only be entered near high tide; the Railay rock tunnels and the Thalane mangrove passages likewise. Ask your operator which tide your date falls on and order the days around it.

Monkeys and jellyfish
The macaques at Tiger Cave, Railay and Phra Nang will open bags and take food, phones and sunglasses — do not feed them and do not carry anything loose. Box jellyfish are rare but real in the Andaman: swim where there is vinegar on the beach, and take a red flag seriously.
