Airport → your hotel
Almost everyone arrives via Suvarnabhumi (BKK), which is 120 km away — allow two hours, more in Bangkok's evening traffic. The Roong Reuang / Bell airport buses leave the transport centre for Pattaya roughly hourly for about 250 THB and will drop at major hotels. A private taxi is ฿1,300–1,800 and worth it for a family or a late arrival. U-Tapao (UTP) is far closer at 45 km but has few international flights. Because the airport run is long, build a real buffer into your departure day — this itinerary already assumes two hours. Verified Aug 2026.

Ways to spend less
Songthaews (the blue pickup trucks) are ฿10-20 a ride along the fixed Beach Road / Second Road loop — just press the buzzer and pay at the window. Do NOT let a driver 'charter' you for ฿300 unless you actually want a private hire.
The public ferry to Koh Larn is ฿30 against ฿300-400 for a speedboat. It takes 45 minutes instead of 15 and is a nicer ride.
Book Tiffany's or Alcazar online — walk-up seats are routinely double the online price for the same row.
Eat at the Thepprasit or Jomtien night markets rather than on Beach Road; the same pad thai is a third of the price.
Most of Pattaya's best sights — Big Buddha, the viewpoint, Jomtien beach, Walking Street, Wat Yan — are free.

Best time to visit
November to February is the best stretch — dry, 25-31°C, calm sea for Koh Larn. March to May is very hot. The monsoon runs roughly June to October: rain comes in short heavy bursts rather than all day, prices drop, but rough seas can stop the island ferries.

Getting around
Songthaews run a fixed anticlockwise loop — Beach Road south, Second Road north — for ฿10-20 a hop; press the buzzer to stop and pay at the driver's window. If you get in and state a destination, you have chartered it and the price becomes ฿200-300. Grab works well. Motorbike hire is cheap but Pattaya's road accident rate is among Thailand's worst and most travel insurance voids without a valid licence.

Visa for Indians
Indian passport holders enter visa-free for 30 days, no fee. File the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours of arrival, and carry a return ticket, hotel booking and proof of funds — Suvarnabhumi immigration does ask Indian passengers for these. Passport valid 6 months.

Food to try
Grilled seafood by the kilo on Jomtien, som tam, moo ping from a street cart, and mango sticky rice. Pattaya has a large Indian population and a whole strip of North and South Indian restaurants around Soi Post Office and Central Pattaya — including pure-veg and Jain options, which are much harder to find elsewhere in Thailand.

The usual Pattaya cautions
Jet ski and motorbike 'damage' claims are a well-documented scam — photograph everything before you take one, or simply do not. Agree bar prices before ordering, never leave a drink unattended, and treat anyone who approaches you on Walking Street offering a show as a tout. None of this makes the city dangerous; it makes it a place to keep your wits about you.

Swim at Jomtien or Koh Larn, not Pattaya Beach
Pattaya Beach itself is narrow, busy and the water quality is variable. Jomtien is wider and cleaner, and Koh Larn's beaches are genuinely clear. If a beach holiday is the point of the trip, plan around those two.
